Beyond the image is a program like no other. It
is an actual program, in and of itself. * It will take viewers through
their own personal process of looking at their body image, the influences
on it, and encourage self-reflection and body acceptance.
Beyond the Image has two versions:
Version I is for use with an adult population, whether that be a group, clinic, or college.
Version II is designed especially for the middle school and high school age group.
Using a combination of magazine ads, photography, quotes and statistics, it explores the media, cultural and societal influences one faces daily about how they “should” look and dispels the myth that we can all have this “body ideal.”
It takes a hard look at eating disorders (anorexia and bulimia), what it feels like to have an eating disorder and how being thin does not equate to happiness.
Finally, it takes the viewer into a process of body acceptance and looking beyond one’s body for the meanings and experiences that truly make life rich.
Extensive 22 page study guide is included as part of this program. Contents include additional information, statistics, discussion questions, exercises, and references.
“Beyond the image is a superb educational tool. It not only gives great information, it touches the emotions. Those who watch this video will have the opportunity to gain insight into body image, influences of the media and eating disorders. A must see for everyone, especially those at risk!”–Jay Fostner, PHD, Director, St. Norbert College Counseling Center
"It was my pain, my struggle, and my loss striking me from the screen. What an affirmation
of where I don’t want to be, and yet how scary that I could." "So powerful, with such lasting messages and feeling. I had to see it again"
